この講義では、受賞歴のある映画監督であり"Filmmaker's Eye "シリーズの著者でもあるグスタボ・メルカド氏が、映画で使われる主要なショットタイプの基本的な "ルール "と、それをいつ／どのように破るべきかを説明することで、ショット構図を シネマティックに演出する方法を解説します。ストーリーに応じてフレーム内のビジュアル要素を整理し、独自の方法でビジョンを反映させるためのショット構成のコンセプトを解説。また、記憶に残るストーリーを創り出すために、言葉やアイデアを映像に変換する際のショット選択の様々なアプローチや、監督の映像選択の指針となるものを説明します。

In this lecture, award-winning filmmaker and "Filmmaker's Eye" book series author Gustavo Mercado will demonstrate what makes a shot composition “cinematic”, by explaining the fundamental “rules” behind all the major shot types used in movies and when/how they should be broken. Participants will understand how to implement basic concepts of shot composition to organize visual elements within the frame depending on the needs of a story in a way that reflects their vision in a unique, original way. He will also demonstrate different approaches to shot selection and what should guide a director’s visual choices when translating words or ideas into images to create emotionally resonant and memorable stories.

グスタヴォ メルカド(Gustavo Mercado) 氏
グスタヴォメルカドはニューヨークを拠点とし、国際映画祭にて多数の受賞歴がある映像製作者です。10年以上にも及ぶ脚本、撮影、監督の経験があり、著書である『Filmmaker's Eye 映画のシーンに学ぶ構図と撮影術:原則とその破り方』、『filmmaker's eye レンズの言語:映画のシーンに学ぶ画作りとストーリーの語り方』は9言語に翻訳され、世界中の教育機関で参考資料として読まれている。この本では、技術的なノウハウから芸術的観点での映像分析、ストーリーにおいての印象的なイメージの機能まで広く説明している。ニューヨーク市立大学にて教鞭を取っていない時には、ヨーロッパにて構図と撮影術、レンズテクニックにまつわるワークショップを開催している。
Gustavo Mercado is a New York-based independent filmmaker with well over 10 years of experience writing, shooting, and directing short and feature-length films and screenplays that won multiple prizes in international film festivals. He is also the author of "The Filmmaker's Eye: Learning and Breaking the Rules of Cinematic Composition", and "The Language of the Lens: The Power of Lenses and the Expressive Cinematic Image", titles that have been translated into 9 languages and are required texts in film programs at major colleges and universities worldwide, where he explores how master filmmakers use technical know-how, aesthetic analysis, and narrative function to create meaningful and memorable images in movies. He also conducts master classes and workshops in cinematic composition and lens techniques in Europe when he is not teaching courses in screenwriting, cinematography, and film production in the City University of New York.

What do we mean when we describe a shot as being cinematic? Is it just a description of how it looks, or does it include other aspects that are unique to movies?
シネマティックな構図のルール／Rules of Cinematic Composition
基本的なショットの種類と、それを実際に使用するための様々なツールについて、その用例を詳しく解説する。
We will examine the conventions in detail for each basic shot type, and the various tools that can be used to implement them.
言葉を視覚的に説得力のあるイメージに変換する／Translating words into expressive, visually eloquent images
映像制作者の仕事は、ページに書かれた言葉を超える映像を作ることです。そのために、使えるツールや機材関係なく映像の選択を導くことができるいくつかの考慮事項やアプローチがある。これをどのように実行できるのか、実践的な例を見ていきます。
The job of a filmmaker is to craft images that go beyond the words written on the page. To do this, there are several considerations and approaches that can guide their visual choices regardless of the tools and equipment at their disposal. We will look at a practical example of how this process can be implemented.
